Why Every Adopting Family Deserves an Adoption Doula by Their Side

Adoption: A Love Story with Many Layers

Adoption is a love story—but it’s also a journey layered with vulnerability, grief, joy, and uncertainty for everyone involved.

Many people think adoption begins with paperwork and ends with placement. But in truth, adoption begins in the heart—and that heart deserves to be supported. That’s where an adoption doula comes in.

As someone who grew up in a family where adoption was part of our everyday love language—my grandmother adopted a girl, and I later adopted my husband’s son—this work is not just professional for me. It’s deeply personal. I walk beside families not just as a doula, but as someone who has lived and breathed the complexity of adoption.

What Is an Adoption Doula?

An adoption doula is a non-medical support professional trained to hold space for all members of the adoption triad: the birth parent(s), the adoptive family, and the baby.

I completed my training at Stillbirthday, a globally respected organization specializing in perinatal bereavement and adoption support. That training opened my eyes to just how sacred, sensitive, and emotionally layered this journey truly is.

As an adoption doula, I offer:

  • Emotional support during the adoption process—for both adoptive parents and, when invited, birth parents
  • Guidance on bonding with your newborn after placement
  • Coping tools to manage grief, fear, and anxiety, even during moments of joy
  • Newborn care education specifically designed for adoptive families
  • Post-placement support including feeding, sleep, and soothing techniques
  • A judgment-free, deeply compassionate presence through every stage

Why It Matters in Florida

Florida is home to many excellent adoption professionals—attorneys like Tate Healey and Webster and Bryan K. McLachlan, and agencies such as Gift of Life Adoptions, The Adoption Consultancy, and Heartfelt Adoptions.

These teams handle logistics, legal frameworks, and coordination—but what about your heart?

That’s where I come in. While your agency or lawyer focuses on documents and timelines, I focus on your emotional and physical well-being—and on making sure your baby enters a space of safety, connection, and calm.

Many families don’t realize they can (and should!) bring on an adoption doula in Florida during:

  • The waiting period—when anxiety runs high and control feels out of reach
  • At the hospital—during delivery and post-birth, to support emotional transitions and bonding
  • After placement—when your world shifts forever and you’re navigating newborn care with layered emotions

When Should You Hire an Adoption Doula?

There’s no wrong time—but the earlier, the better.

Hiring a doula as soon as you begin your adoption journey means:

  • You’ll have someone to process every stage with
  • You’ll be supported in preparing your home, heart, and schedule for your baby
  • You’ll feel emotionally anchored through an overwhelming process
  • You’ll already have a gentle, steady hand beside you when your baby arrives

If you’ve already completed placement and are feeling lost, exhausted, or disconnected, you can still reach out. As your adoption doula, I’ll meet you where you are with the support you deserve.

With Love,
Beata
